Web Wise: How to Do an Online Search
Being able to search efficiently on the Internet
will help you get the information you want quickly. Let's suppose
that you would like to learn to juggle. To find information on
how to juggle, follow these steps:
- Print out this web page to use as a guide.
- Go to the AOL
NetFind Kids Only search engine. A search engine is an online
tool that lets you look on the Internet for information you want.
You can look for information even if you don't know the address
of a website where it can be found.
- Once you get to the AOL NetFind Kids Only
Homepage, locate the search
window to the left of the word Find!
- Type "learning juggling" in the
Find! box. Then press Return or click Find! Note
how many sites are suggested. Investigating all those sites could
take so long that you might not have time to learn juggling!
Instead, return to the AOL NetFind Kids Only Homepage by clicking
the Back button.
- This time, type "learning AND juggling"
in the Find! box. Then press Return or click Find!
Search Tip: The word AND is a special
search term. In this case it tells the search engine to find
only those articles that contain both the word learning and
the word juggling.
- Now it's time to choose a site from among
your search results -- the list of sites containing your search
terms. Click the hotlink for "Juggling Information Service" for information
about juggling.
- Next, click Juggling Help, then How
to Juggle. You will find a list of sites that will show you
skills you need to learn to juggle.
- Return to Web Wise: How to Do an Online
Search by clicking the Close button on the browser
toolbar.
Now find out how web wise you are. Take a
quick check.
