Web Wise: How to Use an Online Encyclopedia
You can use the Internet to learn more about
different kinds of bugs. Suppose you want to find out how butterflies
and moths are similar and how they are different. One way to
find out would be to look them up in an online encyclopedia.
To do so, follow these steps:
- Print out this web page to use as a guide.
- Go to the Microsoft
Encarta Concise Encyclopedia.
- On the Microsoft Encarta Concise Encyclopedia
Homepage, type "butterflies"
or "moths" in the box to the left of the word "Find."
Then press Return or click "Find."
- Review the results of your search. Then click
the hotlink for "Butterflies
and Moths."
- Locate the contents outline for the "Butterflies
and Moths" article in the left margin. Click "Introduction."
- Read the introduction and the paragraph about
characteristics, looking for the similarities and differences
between butterflies and moths. You may want to take notes.
- Answer the following questions by writing
each characteristic from the box in the appropriate location
in the Venn diagram.
How are butterflies and moths alike? How are they
different?

- Return to Web Wise: How to Use an Online
Encyclopedia by clicking the Back button on the browser
toolbar several times.
Now go to Bug
Safari: Observing and Drawing Bugs for a fun activity you
can do at home.
